Long Grove businesses propose festival parking fees

Others have made money at it for years, and the time may have come for the organizers to get in on the action.
The Long Grove Business and Community Partners, which puts on the community’s numerous spring, summer and fall festivals, is applying with the Village Board for permission to charge a parking fee in part of the village-owned Archer Lot. Other property owners around Long Grove have charged visitors parking fees for years, and as LGBCP President Rachel Perkal said Monday, the centrally located lot could provide a significant windfall for the group that organizes the festivals.
“We really looked at the economics,” Perkal said. “A tremendous amount goes into the staging of the festivals. The costs keep going up, up, up. We don’t want to shortchange the actual festival.”
What fee the LGBCP would charge to park, and how much of Archer would be pay-to-park, has not yet been set, she said. The earliest it could take effect, she said, would be the May 4-6 Chocolate Fest; for this weekend’s Ice Meltin’ Blues, parking in the central lot will remain free.
