Luxury stay at Spicers Tamarind
And Spicers Tamarind Retreat at Maleny is no exception.
The group has recently finished the extension of the property and now has five one-bedroom villas, and seven two-bedroom villas for up to four adults, featuring a wood burning fireplace, king-sized day bed on the balcony, large stand-alone bath and two LCD televisions.
From its Tamarind restaurant, chef Daniel Jarrett presents classic Thai dishes while using the local produce - a style he calls modern Asian. And not only that, guests can take part in cooking classes that promise to give away a few of the chef's secrets.
Just 90 minutes drive from Brisbane, Spicers Tamarind is surrounded by rainforest greenery (which will be even more apparent once the newly-planted trees have grown) and Gardners Falls.
And then there is the new Spa Anise which specialises in relaxation and wellness treatments in a natural setting.
We visited Spicers Tamarind not long after the new day spa, with its four treatment rooms and hydrotherapy room, had opened, but there was no evidence of any teething problems.
Desserts are suitably decadent: White Chocolate and Banana Iced Parfait with Hot Guanaja Chocolate Sauce and Passion Fruit and then Valhrona Chocolate Cheesecake with Ginger Biscuits and Crème Fraîche are both not-to-be-missed indulgences.
I really enjoyed my salad with baked goat's cheese and pork belly, pork sausage made on the premises and knockout "house-churned" ice cream of malted milk with crunchy balls of Valrhona chocolate. Good wine list. 1044 Wall Street, La Jolla Contact 858
