Cadbury acquires a taste for US owner Kraft at last

While many in Westminster still grumble about the takeover, it is revealing
that the local attendees were uniformly impressed not just about the centre,
with its shiny development kitchens and 3D printing machines (which allow
developers to come up with the design of a new chocolate bar in a matter of
hours, rather than the weeks it used to take), but also with Kraft itself.
“Kraft is far more engaged with the local community than Cadbury ever was,”
says Katie Teasdale, at the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. Steve McCabe,
the local MP for Selly Oak, says: “I’m personally quite impressed with what
they are trying to achieve. This R&D is pretty crucial to keeping business
in the area.”
Part of Bunker’s success in winning over local support may be down to the fact
he appears to be a genuine chocolate fan. Touring the centre he is endlessly
munching on the various free treats being mixed in the lab or coming off the
test production lines.
