City still looking for spring cleanup volunteers
22.05.12
Though Tuesday ushered in spring with a mix of rain and clouds, the city of Leavenworth is hoping residents start looking forward to some brighter times — the annual citywide Spring Cleanup event April 21.
More than 1,000 volunteers from more than 50 different groups in the city helped with last year’s cleanup, during which they picked up debris in public areas and parks around the city.
Sara Wright, public information officer for the city of Leavenworth, said there are 24 groups of volunteers signed up so far this year to cover the 56 designated areas of the city.
With an April 1 deadline for groups to preregister, Wright said now is the time for those interested in getting involved to sign up. She said the city will even make alternate arrangements for groups that are not able to work April 21.
For planning purposes, Wright said only those groups signed up before the April 1 deadline will receive T-shirts and other materials. However, she said the city will accept registrations for groups after that time.
