Local man's quest to create superior fudge sauce turns into gourmet business
Wayne Shive's fudge sauces probably wouldn't be a hit with little kids.
Spiced with chili or infused with balsamic vinegar, they're likely to make a kid screw up his face and reach for the Nestle's.
But for the more discriminating palate, Shive's Best Boy & Co. gourmet fudge sauces are an interesting and lively diversion from the sauces you might find at the grocery store.
“I've always been disappointed in the chocolate fudge sauces you can buy,” he said, describing them as “overly sweet.”
Shive's new venture started out as a hobby. After many years as an entrepreneur, he sold the 25 nursing homes he owned and started experimenting in the kitchen, coming up with his own fudge sauce, barbecue sauce, and spice and herb blends.
“I thought this might be a good pastime,” he said. He decided to pursue his creative side with a new venture and donate the profits to charity.
In 2007, he founded Best Boy & Co., which now makes gourmet hot fudge sauce, caramel sauce, barbecue sauce, and herb and spice rubs.
The Sweet Georgia Coconut Cream Bombe® uses real coconut throughout the cake, while the Southern Red Velvet cake is made with real buttermilk and cocoa and is garnished with white chocolate curls covering the cream cheese icing.
