Now it's pay-up time for those World Series bets with Texans
Elected officials and civic organizations love wagering on sporting events like the recent Cardinals-Rangers World Series.
Collecting on those bets can be another matter.
One sportsman prompt to pay was Dr. Greg Pearl, a Dallas vascular surgeon who specializes in a thoracic procedure used on baseball players.
Pearl made a bet with Dr. Robert Thompson, a surgeon at the Washington University School of Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital who also specializes in the procedure.
So on Wednesday, about 50 people from the medical school's vascular surgery department gathered in Queeny Tower to enjoy a lunch of barbecued ribs — what else from a thoracic surgeon? — from Rib City in Manchester.
Kudos to Dallas doc Pearl for not being a slow pay.
