If you’re visiting Walt Disney World in Orlando this summer, stay at the Polynesian Resort. Or at least go there to eat — that’s where 2010 Florence High School graduate Jacob St. John, an up-and-coming culinary student, is interning.
A second-year honors student at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, N.C., St. John is working toward degrees in baking and pastry arts and food-service management. He interviewed for one of the coveted Disney internships about three months ago.
“I couldn’t believe it when I got the call that I was chosen for the intern program,” he said. “It’s a big resume builder and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I’m not sure what I’ll be doing there, but they know that baking is my passion, so hopefully that’s what they’ll want me to do.”
St. John, 20 and a Florence native, was home recently, visiting family and friends on his way to start the internship in Orlando.
He also stopped by Florence High School to visit former teacher Marsha Carter, who had encouraged him as a student in the culinary program.
