Temptations Abound With Cookies Around
22.05.12
In late January, we were discussing nutrition, how foods we really love have hidden calories and sugar. Rebecca knows I’ve always battled not eating after supper, popping the top on a can of Diet Pepsi, taking possession of Spark’s recliner and ripping into a jumbo bag of kettle corn while watching a movie.
“I’d give anything to quit eating after supper,” I confessed.
“You can stop. You can do it, Mom,” she said, determination in her voice.
She then offered a tip that worked for her. To get through the first few days, she didn’t watch TV at night — she kept her mind and hands busy doing other things. “And after that it just got easier,” she said.
It’s been six weeks now, and though I’ve succumbed to the temptation of after-supper snacks when I’m at the cinema, at home I’ve pretty much kicked the habit. I just can’t give up my movie-house medium popcorn without butter, but I have stopped chasing the salt with sugar. No more Snowcaps for me, a candy that tastes best in a darkened theater.
