The dish: Chocolate Easter eggs
In a couple of days, the Easter bunny will be hop-hop-hopping into homes to tuck chocolate eggs in shadowy corners, under dining room tables and into other semi-concealed hidey holes.
Depending on where the bunny procures his chocolate, there are all sorts of egg-shaped treats he could leave behind.
They could be made of solid milk chocolate or shaped into delicate, hollow eggs. They could be the size of a marble or a baseball. They could be filled with fondant or caramel or creamy peanut butter, or covered in brightly coloured candy coating.
With all these chocolate choices, we wondered if there are big differences in the number of calories contained within various eggs.
Turns out, there are no “nutritious” chocolate eggs out there. At least in the five that we picked up from popular chocolate purveyors.
The best advice we have is to eat a small bunch, not a basketful, and enjoy every bite. It is also helpful to keep in mind the holiday is meant to be a four-day weekend, not a month-long chocolate fest.
